Monday afternoon, a strong cold front swept across the nation, leaving cold weather in the mid-upper US, and pelting the southern states with hail. Hailstorms are measured in severity on a scale from one to five (with a 5 delivering maximum regional impact. Little Rock, Arkansas, witnessed a Category 3 Hailstorm late Monday evening as did Shreveport, Louisiana, as well. Category 3 hailstorms bring along hailstones larger than 2" in diameter. NOAA has confirmed a Category 2 Hailstorm in Fort Smith, Arkansas, as well as Category 1 hailstorms in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Alexandria, Louisiana. Category 2 deliver hail stones between 1.01 - 2" with Category 1's have hail measuring 0.51 and 1" in diameter. This weather system has managed quite a bit of damage in the deep south.
